A kitchen gut, a basement finish or a lot cleared for a new house can each disturb several asbestos materials in one go. Minnesota wants asbestos out before any building is renovated or demolished, houses included. We clear the parts your plan touches so the following crew can start without it.
Remodel and teardown abatement is available across Bloomington, Mendota Heights and Shakopee.

These rooms can hold several suspect materials in one space, from floor tile and mastic to sheet flooring, wall texture and the ceiling above. We remove them in one setup where we can.
All asbestos has to be removed two or more days before a house is demolished. Hennepin County inspects homes ahead of demolition and asks to see the survey, the receipts for the abatement and the disposal manifests.
MPCA’s ten-working-day demolition notice covers commercial buildings and any apartment building with five or more units. Houses of up to four units are outside it, with three exceptions. A house that started life as some other kind of building is covered, so is one of several houses that one owner is taking down, and so is a teardown done for a highway, an urban renewal plan or a commercial development.
Bloomington splits demolition into two permits. Knocking down a whole structure goes through the city’s demo permit application, while gutting the inside for a remodel is filed as a building permit for interior demo work, apart from the permit for the new construction.
The city’s FAQ on this does not mention asbestos. The state removal rules still apply, and Hennepin County’s ordinance requires asbestos-containing materials to be removed before demolition or renovation.
Ask to see the company’s Minnesota asbestos license before you sign, along with the certificates held by its supervisor and workers, as MDH advises. Ask for a copy of the MDH permit as well, then the waste manifests and the air-sampling lab report once the job ends. MDH also suggests comparing more than one bid. Each bidder should visit the site and put the work plan in writing.
