  • Several rooms or one floor, about 600 to 1,000 sq ft$5,000 – $13,500+

Bumpy white ceilings from the 1960s and 1970s can be more than a dated look. MDH lists popcorn ceiling texture as a possible asbestos material, so we test before anyone sands or scrapes. With a positive result, the room is sealed, the ceiling misted and the texture scraped down into bags, ready for a skim coat, drywall or paint.

Ceilings lost their old exemption in July 2021 for houses and buildings with four or fewer units. A positive popcorn ceiling in a house, a duplex or a fourplex in Bloomington, Mendota Heights or Shakopee now falls under the same asbestos work rules as any other material.

Ceiling jobs we handle

One room or a whole floor

Each room is emptied, the floor and walls go under plastic, and a HEPA negative air machine holds the dust inside. Bigger jobs run room by room or open a whole level at once, depending on how you use the house during the work.

Painted or water-stained texture

A coat of paint can keep the texture from soaking up water, and a brown stain can mean a leak once came through from above. We check for both during the visit so your quote matches the real ceiling.

Ceiling tiles

Basement and rec room ceiling tiles are sampled separately from any texture. When they test positive, we take them down whole where possible and bag them right away.

Leaving it in place

You don’t have to remove intact texture that will stay undisturbed. Sanding, drilling for a new light or cutting an opening changes that, so plan the removal before those jobs.

Before the crew arrives

A few steps on your side keep a ceiling job on schedule.

Empty the room

Furniture, curtains and anything hanging on the walls should come out. We cover whatever can’t be moved.

Plan around the closed room

Expect that room to be off limits from setup until the clearance air test passes. Move a bed, a desk or anything you use daily somewhere else before we seal it.

Line up the finisher

Your next trade decides where we stop. If a drywaller is hanging new board, a plasterer is coming or the painter only needs a smooth base, tell us, and the bare ceiling will be left ready for that person.
